The lighting design concept for the new Emil Frey showroom in Zürich Oerlikon focuses on creating a new visual landmark for the area and the client, while at the same time maintaining a respectful restraint within the surroundings.
Integrated lines of dynamically controlled light trace the shape of the building, giving it scale and anchoring it in place. Through the intelligent glass façade system, the interior of the building comes to life in the dark hours: exhibition and event areas, as well as the quiet offices, live out the evening hours within the translucent building, with a large levitating presence in the city. At the heart of the building, the atrium collects and redistributes the flow of synergies: vertical lines of light funnel the attention upwards, while large staggered light panels focus your attention towards each individual floor.
With in essence a minimalistic lighting scheme, we`ve strived to achieve a diverse yet cohesive result, highlighting the buildings various shaped spaces and its multiple functions.
